Translate anything you select.
A small, private translation extension for your browser. Highlight text on any page and a translation appears next to it. Watch YouTube, Netflix, and Prime Video with two subtitle languages at once. No accounts, no tracking, no data collection.
What it does

Bilingual subtitles
A button in the YouTube, Netflix, or Prime Video player shows two subtitle lines at once — the video’s language on top, yours below, in sync line for line. On YouTube both lines come from YouTube’s own captions; on Netflix and Prime Video, pair two of the title’s own languages, machine-translate the original track, or load your own subtitle file. Your pair is remembered from title to title, and you can pause and select any subtitle word to translate or save it.
Inline bubble
Highlight text on any page and the translation appears in a small popover right next to it. No new tabs, no context switching.
Five providers
Pick what fits: Google (default, no setup), MyMemory, DeepL, Azure Translator, or your own LibreTranslate instance.
Speak it back
Hear the original or translated text. Click the speaker once for normal speed, twice for slow repeat.
Right-click translate
Select text and use the right-click menu to translate without leaving the page.
Toolbar popup
Type or paste anything into the toolbar popup for a quick lookup with full provider control.

Translate PDFs
Opt in to open web PDFs in Hawk Translate’s bundled viewer so the select-to-translate bubble works on PDF pages, just like on regular web pages.
Local history
Translations are saved on your device only — searchable, filterable, and exportable to Anki, CSV, JSON, or Markdown. You control how long it’s kept, and nothing ever leaves your browser.
Saved words & flash cards
Tap the ☆ on any translation to save it to your study list, then review your words as spaced-repetition flash cards until they stick. Words you’ve mastered graduate out of the rotation.
Keyboard shortcut
Assign a hotkey to translate the current selection instantly — it works even on pages where you’ve turned the bubble off.
Translation backends
Use whichever provider you trust.
Your text is sent only to the provider you choose. API keys are stored locally in your browser and never sent anywhere except the matching provider's API.
Privacy
No tracking. No accounts. Nothing collected.
Hawk Translate does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There is no analytics, no telemetry, and no remote logging of any kind.
Translation requests go directly from your browser to whichever provider you select. Settings and API keys are stored only on your device.
Bilingual subtitles read the captions the video’s own player already serves. Pairing two of a title’s own subtitle languages uses no translation provider at all and never leaves your browser; choosing to machine-translate a track on Netflix or Prime Video sends that text to your chosen provider, just like any other translation.
